From carbon to Carbow

The Technology

Carbon fiber has numerous advantages: rigidity, solidity, lightness, fatigue-strength… But these advantages, including stable acoustic results, are only possible if the assembly of carbon fibers is the result of rigorous conception. Using digitally conceived molds and database guaranties consistency in manufacturing.

Each bow is produced in our workshop with a serial number. Making a bow requires 10 to 20 hours of work depending on the model. The bows are molded in one piece, and then individually shaped by hand. All the steps are carried out by the same bow-maker. Carbon sticks are polished and traditionally varnished.

Carbow gives you three level of quality.

  • Our black sticks are made according to our traditional process. CARBOW has perfected an exclusive layout of the fibers and a sophisticated method of assembly “under high-pressure” which guaranties consistency in manufacturing.

  • “CarboWave®” technology, with a specific combination of materials: fibers, resin, pigments have opened the way to a new brown-colored bow stick that produces more harmonics.

  • and since 2019, the “Naturbow®” is a combination of vegetable & carbon fiber to provide the best result of wood and carbon capacities.

We don’t use any “CITES” or forbidden materials in our bows.

“Wish is to offer to each musician the best composites stick add to a traditional bow making”

Olivier Philippot, owner and founder of LNM-Carbow.

Carbow® is a trademark of LNM - Les Nouveaux Matériaux, a composites engineering office based in Camaret sur Mer, that for 27 years has worked for composites industry. All our bows are designed and fully produced in our own workshop since 1995.
LNM uses the best software to conceived products : CATIA, a computer design software from Dassault Systems and NX, a simulation software from Siemens PLM.

Our frogs are made by Paulus GmbH, located in Röttenbach, Germany, “Vielen Dank Helmut !”

A big thank to Jean Grunberger, Nelly Poidevin and Pascal Camurat, famous French bow-makers for all their teaching and helps!
